3 Things You Need Before Launching To Your Email List

I’m on the other side of my first 5-figure launch.

Before I dig into the goods of profits and lessons learned, I need to backup a little.

I’ve been writing copy for private clients to the tune of 300+ projects over the last 7 years.

In a single year, I did 52 copywriting projects for 19 clients and it accounted for 89% of my profits.

My previous course launch in 2015 landed me 3 total sales and one of them was an affiliate payout. It felt like a punch in the gut.

Fast forward to 2018, I now know enough about launch strategy beyond the copy creation to launch without paid ads and had 10x my results.

What changed? I learned the right offer paired with the right audience trumps the importance of copy (yup, being honest about this with myself is always a good ego check).

I opened the doors to my new program teaching how to shave 15 to 20 hours off the work week without a course. Instead, we focused on scaling private client work.

Leveraging beautiful branding and design also insured my audience felt safe when they clicked the buy button.

The offer, audience, copy, photography and design hit all the right spots and it was by far my easiest launch.

Here’s an image from my slides.

In the past, I had been way too reliant on webinars to do the selling for me. Having the perfect email funnel, sales page and webinar registration page doesn’t always mean the dough will just magically roll your way.

While most people are zigging, I zagged with my latest launch strategy.

The results:

4 spots @ $3500 + 1 spot @ $5500 = $19,500.

I’ve been toying with this launch in my head since the end of 2017. But all the actual implementation happened over a few weeks in January. Hats off to my incredible team members Lindsey and Kim.

So what are the 3 things you need to do before launching to your list?

Scrubbing your list has the potential to triple your email open rates.

Low open rates = low scores from your email provider (translation: your emails are more likely to land in spam or the promotions tab. Womp!)

If no one’s opening your emails— does your beautifully crafted message really matter? Ouch!

Go from why-doesn’t-anyone-read-my-stuff to becoming the oh-so-cool-unforgettable-kid on the email block who sells more of your service or product.

Decluttering your email list is super easy with the exact 3 email scripts my clients pay thousands of dollars to get.

All you need to do is click here and copy/paste/send for better open rates.

Giving your audience a gift before the launch promotion allows them to get a sample of what it’s like to learn from you with no obligation.

Your gift can be a downloadable audio, PDF or video created to knock their socks off with value. You’re coaching them to click and take action on your emails.

It’s also a way to seed your upcoming launch promotion. You’ll plant the idea in their head about what’s coming next.

Your gift rebuilds relationships with the people on your list (even if you’ve ghosted on them in the past).

The second email script in the download I mentioned earlier walks you through how to implement this.

Your gift will start a conversation between you and an audience who can’t help but open up your message every time your name pops up in their inbox.

Once you’ve sent the emails to determine who’s in your ride-or-die, email-opening click gang (aka they’re gonna open up your email and stay loyal for life).

Get rid of those pesky lurkers who never open anything and only talk to the people who actually want to hear from you.

Now when you invite people to your free webinar you know they’re engaged. They’re primed to learn from you, you’ve coached them to click through on what you’re offering, and they’re ready to show up for your webinar.

The people who sign up for your webinar are your “launch list.” They’re the ones who raise their hand by registering and you know they’re interested in what you have to offer.

When you segment out the people who said yes to your webinar you’re avoiding email fatigue with your main list. The webinar registrants are your most engaged readers.

You can expect webinar show up rates of 25-50%, email open rates as high as 60-75%, and click through rates on your offer between 3-10%.

Got a launch coming up? I want to hear about it.

Leave a comment below with your email open rates. I have a weird fascination with launch numbers.
